Mathieu started his musical education with classical piano and solfege when he was 7.
He studied piano for thirteen years at the Academy of Rixensart with Marc Gillot.
He also has studied classical guitar for 4 years and classical percussion and drums for 5 years.
 
At the age of 18, he discovered Jazz and decided to go to the "Jazzstudio" in Antwerpen.
He studied piano and drums there for 2 years with teachers like Ewout Piereux, Jeremy Calbert,
Bas Coijmans, Joe Higham, Marek Patrman...

In 2004 he entered the "Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel" to follow the class of
Diederik Wissels. He studied there for 3 years before going to the "Lemmens Instituut"
in Leuven in the class of Ron Van Rossum.
Through the years, he has followed many workshops with musicians such as Erik Vermeulen,
Ivan Paduart, Paolo Radoni, Peter Hertmans, Weber Iago, and so on...
In 2007, one of his bands, Belch’Quartet had the opportunity to participate in a cultural
exchange with students from the "Suksasongkraw Maechan School" in the north
of Thaïland, which led to a performance of "Celebration" at the Sala Chalermkrung Royal Theater
in Bangkok. This project keep on going between Thaïland and his band, "Belch'Quartet".
 

He is present on the Belgian jazz scene, with many different bands.
Apart from these projects, Mathieu has also played with various talented musicians such
as Frédéric Jacques, Jordi Grognard, Jean-Paul Estiévenart, Laurent Mercier, Michael Trompeneers,
Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, Jean-Phillipe De Gheest, Fred Delplancq, etc
